Content: This item consists of five documents which were issued by the Japanese authorities immediately after surrender. The first document titled "The Imperial Headquarters proclamation" discusses the division and occupation by the Allied Powers of surrendered Japanese territories, disarmament and surrender of weapons, provision of information requested by the Allied Powers, removal of obstacles for air and sea transport, treatment of POWs, facilitation of the Allied occupation, etc. The second document titled "Summary of the Imperial Army special order No. 1" is an order given to the Commanders-in-Chief of the 8th Area Army and the 31st Army. Issues discussed include the cessation of hostilities and immediate disarmament, maintenance of weapons and equipment, removal of obstacles to road, air and sea transport, termination of the distribution of weapons and ammunition, assistance to the occupation forces, cooperation between the army and the navy, etc. The third document provides instructions based on the second document. The fourth document (untitled) discusses the occupation by the Allied Powers, repatriation of the Japanese Forces, and disarmament and maintenance of public order. The last document is a copy of the instrument of surrender.
