| Content: | This is an Allied Translator and Interpreter Section (ATIS) translation of a Japanese publication captured on 31 March 1944 at an unknown location (presumably in Melanesia). This item is a translation of an article entitled "We shall win through science", from the January 1943 issue of a magazine entitled "Situation report", published by Mainichi Newspaper Company. The article is divided into three parts, each by a different author. The first article is entitled "New objectives of science in Japan", by ARAKI Toshima, and appeals to scientists for full cooperation in winning the war and the need to suspend purely scientific research in favour of research applied to war problems. The second article, "The fighting technologists" by KAIDA Muratao, discusses the importance of technology in the Emergency Preparation Plan for Scientific Research announced by the Ministry of Education and includes a general exposition of the present situation of technology in Japan with a particular emphasis on the aeronautical industry. The third article, "Progress of scientific research laboratories" by IMANO Ensuke, reaccounts for the work performed by various experimental organisations and universities. |
