Content: This is an Allied Translator and Interpreter Section (ATIS) translation of a Japanese publication captured at Mission "A" [Mission Point] on 17 September during the Japanese retreat from campaigns in the Owen Stanley Ranges. This item is a notebook, dated 2 February to 14 May 1943 with information from lectures given at the Naval War College to members of Michi Force on Japanese infantry tactics and combat methods. It contains observations about the American people and their character and capacity in battle, a comparison between Japanese and American firepower, an outline of the organisation of American defensive positions, lessons learnt from operations in Wau, jungle warfare and the characteristics of the Australian soldier. This item also contains a situation report for the Mubo-Bobdubi area between 14 April and 20 May 1943 and a sketch diagram of a Japanese pillbox.
