Content: This is an Allied Translator and Interpreter Section (ATIS) translation of a Japanese publication captured at Hollandia (Jayapura) on 22 April 1944 during the Allied attacks on Japanese positions in northern Dutch New Guinea, which were intended to isolate the 18th Army at Wewak. This item contains extracts from a manual entitled "Field military police manual", issued by the Superior Officers' Club, Army Military Police School, first edition 10 March 1942; second edition 30 April 1942. It contains information on the duties of a field military police unit including: maintenance of military power, defence against psychological warfare, intelligence methods, duties at detention camps, disposal of enemy property, assembly, marches, combat tactics, operations against large cities, public order and morals, punishment, employment of "mass penalties", sanitation, religion, traffic policing and general aspects of administering occupied territory.
