Content: This item is a leaflet urging Japanese soldiers in the Aitape area to surrender. The English message instructs American soldiers to treat the bearer in a humane manner and to take him to the nearest intelligence officer. On the back of the leaflet is a message in Japanese supposedly written by a surrendered Japanese officer. The message discusses the futility of continuing the battle and emphasises how well he has been treated at an American camp. He claimes that he is full of gratitude for the Americans and their kindness has often brought tears in his eyes.
