Content: This item is a hand-drawn map of the Huon Peninsula coastline in the Vitiaz Strait area, from Bang to Cati. It shows roads and transport routes from the coast inland to locations such as Matok, Wanuk and Torunge, shown as red dotted lines. While there are comments written in Japanese at various locations on the map, concerning issues such as the availability of supplies, most of the place names are written in English, with only a few rendered in Japanese phonetic characters. Symbols marked in red at various locations on the map, some with a question mark in front, could refer to the whereabouts of enemy troops. This item was captured at Anamo in July 1944.
