Content: This is an Allied Translator and Interpreter Section (ATIS) translation of a Japanese publication captured at Hollandia on 21 May 1944 during the Allied attacks on Japanese positions in northern Dutch New Guinea, which were intended to isolate the 18th Army at Wewak. This item is an extract from a training manual entitled "Copy of lecture of landing operations (appendix)", issued by the Army Transportation Division (an agency of the War Ministry) in December 1942. It contains information on the duties of the disembarkation unit during a landing, actions to be taken by transports during aerial and submarine attack, and general principles of fleet communication. This item also reveals Japanese understanding of American aerial and naval offensive tactics.
