Content: | This is an Allied Translator and Interpreter Section (ATIS) translation of a Japanese publication captured at Tanauan on 27 October 1944 during the US campaign to recapture the Philippines. This item is an extract from a file of combat reports on Allied landing operations dated 6 May to 11 October 1944, issued largely by KAKI Group, 16th Division Headquarters and held by the 54th Airfield Company. It includes reports on various actions including: Allied submarine and ship movements prior to the landing at Biak, the eradication of Station Maca on Samar Island, situation of Allied shipping in the southeast area, the tactics employed by American forces in the battle for Saipan, lessons drawn from Allied operations in New Guinea and four instances of the sinking of Allied submarines by shipping artillery units, damage to the 103rd and 67th Line of Communication Hospitals, lessons learned regarding fortifications against naval and air bombardment on Wake Island, Gilbert Island and Hollandia, Allied bombardment of Matsuwa Island between 13 and 14 June 1944, the attack on Soerabaja (Sarabaya) by an Allied task force, and the results of naval bombardment on Guam. |
