Content: | This is an Allied Translator and Interpreter Section (ATIS) translation of a Japanese publication captured at Hollandia (Jayapura) on 22 April 1944 during the Allied attacks on Japanese positions in northern Dutch New Guinea, which were intended to isolate the 18th Army at Wewak. This item is a manual entitled "Field military police manual", issued by the Superior Officers' Club, Army Military Police School, first edition 10 March 1942; second edition 30 April 1942. It includes information on the following subjects: basic duties of field military police, field military police as "advance troops in the holy war", defence against psychological warfare, defence against arson and terrorist attacks, use of bacteria and poisons, mass punishment for natives, prison camp duties, measures to be taken against offences by nationals of neutral countries, control of Japanese nationals in forward areas, use of religion in controlling natives, spiritual training and keeping diaries, disposal of wounded and dead on the battlefield, attitude towards wounded and dead soldiers and the immediate aims of psychological warfare in east Asia. |
