| Content: | This is an Allied Translator and Interpreter Section (ATIS) interrogation report for 1st Class Private IKEDO Tomoichi of the 229th Infantry Regiment 3rd Battalion 12th Company 3rd Platoon, who was captured in Buna on 10 December 1942. IKEDO, a 23 year old 1st Class Private from Gifu, was severely wounded by grenades when he was captured by Australian troops. He was a medical orderly in his platoon. As he had made up his mind to stay in Australia for the rest of his life, he was willing to answer questions during the interrogation. IKEDO provided information on unit organisation and movements, medical orderlies' training, medical supplies, medical treatment for the sick and wounded, and socio-political conditions in Japan. He also described gas bombs his unit had brought to Buna and provided an illustration of the bomb. |
