Content: | This is an Allied Translator and Interpreter Section (ATIS) interrogation report for JA147471 of the 4th Airfield Construction Unit, who was captured at Sentani hospital on 25 April 1944. JA147471, a 23 year old 1st Class Private from Kumihama, Kyoto, was captured by US troops when hospital personnel evacuated on 23 April 1944, leaving him and six other patients behind. During the interrogation, JA147471 provided information on the location of Allied prisoners of war at Makoronen, 7 miles from Maoemere (Flores), in May 1943, movements of Tacoma Maru and Shirakawa Maru between 10 July 1942 and 25 September 1943, the organisation of the 7th Air Training Unit, civilian employees in the construction of airfields in Schwebo (Burma) and Dili (East Timor), the use of child labour, Allied air raids and air defence warning systems. |
