| Content: | This is an Allied Translator and Interpreter Section (ATIS) translation of a Japanese publication captured at an unknown location (presumably the Philippines) on 9 June 1945 during the Allied campaign to recapture the Philippines. This item is a pamphlet entitled "Material for study regarding combat tactics against parachute forces", compiled during mass jumps carried out between 20 and 21 May (year not stated) at Raid Training Section. It contains information on the following subjects: airfields which present possibilities for attack by parachute forces in Malaya, Java and Burma; estimating and evaluating plans of parachute forces (including a sketch of raiding operation in Palembang); composition of troops for attacking airfields; jump data; general procedure for attacks on airfields; combined use of parachute and airborne forces; obstacles that hinder combat after jumps; lessons learned from the Palembang operation and subjects for future study. Japanese paratroopers attacked the Palembang airfield on 14 February 1942, forcing the small number of defending troops to withdraw. |
