Content: This is an Allied Translator and Interpreter Section (ATIS) translation of a Japanese publication captured at Cape Dinga near Nassau Bay in July 1943 during the Japanese retreat from campaigns in the Owen Stanley Ranges. This item contains summaries of American combat methods, particularly in the Solomon Islands. It contains observations about the characteristics and methods of American warfare, combat leadership, the importance attached to artillery and infantry strength, offensive and defensive strategy, night operations, fortifications, use of tanks and motor vehicles, the weakness of US fighting methods and comments about US military procedures during peacetime. This document also includes opinions about the "general world situation from the American viewpoint", and "views on the conduct of the war against Japan."
