Biographical / Institutional info:These documents are held by the Kure Municipal History Office and were used in the compilation of the official history of Kure. The AJRP acknowledges the assistance of Mr CHIDA Takeshi for making available this collection of documents for the AJRP database. Mr CHIDA , a historian who has conducted research on BCOF in Japan, participated in a seminar series conducted by the AJRP in 1998-1999.
Content:This series consists of various administrative documents created by the Kure Municipal Council during and after the Allied occupation. Matters discussed include the occupation of the Hiroshima area by BCOF, the withdrawal of BCOF from Kure, the return of requisitioned properties, construction projects conducted under BCOF, the UN Administrative Agreement, the relationship between the occupation forces and Kure citizens, war brides and mixed-blood children, unemployment issues related to the reduction and withdrawal of the occupation forces, etc. Some of these documents may not relate directly to the Australian component of the occupation forces.
