Content: | This is an Allied Translator and Interpreter Section (ATIS) research report on aircraft carried on Japanese naval vessels. The enquiry was received on 28 October 1943 and an answer despatched on 5 November 1943. This report contains a chart showing the number and type of aircraft carried on certain vessels based on a Japanese Navy Ministry compilation dated 1 December 1941 (salvaged in Guadalcanal in June 1943), and comments from prisoners of war about the type aircraft on Japanese battleships, cruisers and submarines. It also contains details on submarine airplanes and their launch, stowage and recovery mechanisms. The report also mentions the class of submarines which carried midget submarines and attacked Sydney Harbour . |
