Content: This item is a draft of a letter sent on 8 April 1946 to the Chief of Staff of the 8th Military District of the Australian Forces. Matters discussed include requests made by General IMAMURA on 2 April, appointment of Colonel YONEHARA to the Manager of the Boarding Office, return of Chiefs of Staff SEGAWA and TAKAHASHI to Rabaul, transfer of suspected war criminals, repatriation of Japanese servicemen working for the Australian forces on New Ireland and personnel affairs at the Talili Camp. The sender requests the appointment of YONEHARA to the above position so as to maintain smooth operation of the Boarding Office and to enforce discipline among servicemen awaiting repatriation. He requests the Australian forces to arrange the return of SEGAWA and TAKAHASHI to Rabaul, who were repatriated earlier to Japan in order to deal with personnel affairs of the 8th Army such as remuneration and pension payments. The sender also requests the transfer of suspected war criminals to the 5th and 10th Camps and the return to Rabaul of Japanese workers remaining on New Ireland.
