| Content: | This is an Allied Translator and Interpreter Section (ATIS) interrogation report for Military Carrier and Medical Orderly YAMAGUCHI Masahiro who was attached to the Takasago Giyûtai. YAMAGUCHI, a 32 year old from Shimane, was captured when he lost his way near Soputa on 6 December 1942. YAMAGUCHI was a civilian recruit. He provided information on the Takasago Giyûtai, Korean labourers, New Guinean carriers, and the medical services his unit provided. He criticised the lack of air defence for the troops during the campaign. He talked extensively about situations in Japan, and general views on the war. He had been told he would be paid 90 yen a month, which was extraordinary high for a civilian medical orderly. He realised that the amount was probably exaggerated. He never received any wages. |
