Content: | This is an Allied Translator and Interpreter Section (ATIS) interrogation report for Superior Private FUJITA Denji of the 55th Infantry Group Headquarters 120th Land Duties Company 1st Platoon 3rd Section, who was captured in Giruwa on 22 January 1943. FUJITA, a 34 year old Superior Private from Akita, was sick with beri beri and malaria when he was captured by Australian troops. The interrogators commented that FUJITA "stood mute and stolid" and it was "difficult to say whether he is actually stupid or merely security minded". In this short report, FUJITA provided information on unit movement. He stated that he did not receive any letters from home, but did not care because soldiers on active service should "completely cut themselves off from their families". |
