Content: | This item is a Japanese-language propaganda leaflet produced by the Far Eastern Liaison Office during the Second World War. An English translation of the text is attached. The item contains two copies of the leaflet. The message emphasises that true loyalty demands that a Japanese solder preserve his life rather than die uselessly, so that he can contribute to the reconstruction of Japan after peace returns. The leaflet assures that Japanese POWs will be treated in accordance with international law on POWs. The English message on the back states that the bearer of the leaflet has ceased resistance and should be treated in accordance with international law. 300,000 of them were printed. 140,000 of these leaflets were dispatched to Lae on 23 and 28 February and 27 July 1945. 100,000 of them were also dispatched to Trokina on 23 and 28 February 1945, and 100,000 to Morotai on 1 March and 27 July 1945. |
