Content: This item is a pictorial propaganda leaflet produced by the Far Eastern Liaison Office during the Second World War. The leaflet includes a picture of young Japanese women wandering on a beach on a fine autumn day. The caption in Japanese questions whether these young women wish for the useless death of young Japanese soldiers who could be their life-long partners. On the back of the leaflet is a short message urging the recipient to surrender. The item includes two copies of the pictorial leaflet and the English translation of the text. 270,000 of them were printed in total. About 100,000 of these leaflets were dispatched to Nadzab on 21 and 26 July 1944, 102,000 to Hollandia on 23 October 1944, 50,000 to Lae on 30 November 1944, and 20,000 to Perry House 24 October 1944. On 22 June 1945, 100,000 were further reprinted but the stock was destroyed on 24 August 1945.
