Content: This item is a Japanese-language propaganda leaflet produced by the Far Eastern Liaison Office. An English translation of the text is attached. The leaflet takes the form of a letter supposedly written by a Japanese soldier who has surrendered to the Allied Forces. The leaflet details the consecutive losses suffered by the Japanese forces in New Guinea and the recent landing of the Americans in the Philippines. The message urges the recipient to surrender rather than to die in vain, so that he can contribute to the post-war reconstruction of Japan. 25,000 of them were printed. All of these leaflets were dispatched to Hollandia on 22 January 1945.
