| Content: | It includes numerous collections which contain reminiscences, correspondence, reports, personal accounts, as well as transcripts of plays, poetry, novels, and other miscellaneous papers. Some of the more important collections are introduced below. There are numerous collected memoirs and reminiscences from servicemen and women from Malaya, Timor, Papua, New Guinea, and the Philippines. These include accounts from infantry soldiers, coastwatchers, medical staff, ambulance drivers, and war correspondents. Several collections specifically relate to war correspondents, such as Damien Parer, David McNicoll and George Johnston. These include diaries, notebooks, correspondence and other papers. War Crimes Trials are the focus of several collections, including the papers of John Miles Williams, the judge for the trials on Ambon and Morotai, and the account of the trials by the Japanese lawyer, MUNEMIYA Shinji. Numerous collections include material on Australian Prisoners of War, especially in Changi and on the Burma-Thai Railway. A large collection relates to Brigadier Frederick Galleghan, the commander of 2/30th Battalion, and later Commander of Allied POWs in Malaya. |
