| Content: | These 51 items seem to have been captured in the Philippines in late 1944 to early 1945. The addition of an ADVATIS registration number on some of these items would indicate that they were all ATIS B documents, and not deemed to contain information of immediate operational value. One exception is the diary of a medical officer captured at San Nicolas. An ATIS scanning sheet is attached identifying it as an ATIS A document. It is not known why these materials came to be included in the collection at the AWM. Perhaps their classification as B documents led to their removal to base ATIS, in Brisbane and then moved to Manila in July 1945, where they were mistakenly bundled with other material of Australian responsibility. The material consists of operational documents, such as unit diaries, orders and administrative reports, as well as several military manuals and instruction circulars. There are also several personal diaries, address books, letters and postcards (both received from Japan and those written but not sent). |
