Content: | This is an Allied Translator and Interpreter Section (ATIS) interrogation report for Sergeant ABE Torao of the 115th Infantry Regiment Communication Company 1st Platoon 2nd Section, who was captured in the Trobriand Islands on 12 March 1943. ABE, a 29 year old Sergeant from Gunma, was captured by Australian troops when his boat drifted to shore after his ship, Oigawa Maru, was sunk. His three other companions in the boat were killed by Allied gunfire before the boat reached the shore. During the interrogation, ABE provided information on the telegraph unit to which he was attached. He also told the interrogators that he did not receive news of home or Japan while he was on service. |
