Content: | This is an Allied Translator and Interpreter Section (ATIS) translation of a Japanese publication captured at Cape Gloucester on 13 February 1944 during the Allied campaigns to capture New Britain. This item is a collection of bulletins, intelligence reports and Imperial Headquarters orders dated 1 August 1943 to 25 December 1943, held by Natsu 9853 Force (141st Infantry Regiment Headquarters) at Tsurubu (Tuluvu). It contains information on the garrison's daily routine, interaction with natives, Allied propaganda activities, and the results of sea, land and air engagements around New Guinea, Tarawa and the Gilbert, Solomon and Marshall Islands. This document also contains an official report on the Tottori City (Japan) earthquake, an allegation that the Allies used lachrymatory (tear) gas in the battle for Finschhafen, comments on manpower resources in the United States and England, and postal regulations concerning taking and sending purchased goods to Japan from operational areas. |
