Remembering the war in New Guinea - Themes

Themes pages: key topics of inquiry through collaboration

The Remembering the war in New Guinea project themes pages contain text and images to explore key aspects of the war as it related to the various groups involved. These themes emerged out of the early phases of the project and were refined at the symposium and workshop. All texts are presented with the aim of representing without bias the experiences and memories of those caught up in the conflict.

The texts for these pages have been contributed by researchers affiliated with the project, and by other interested academics and historians. The author of a contribution is clearly identified at the head of each page. The statements and assertions within these pages do not necessarily reflect the views of all the project’s researchers. In the interests of providing a collaborative forum for the exchange of ideas, all contributions have been presented as received, with some editing on stylistic grounds.

All themes sections in the site contain an overview text page (200 words), a longer text page (1,000 words) and several images. They may also include a list of suggested readings, personal stories, transcript/translation of related historic documents, an academic article, and other general interest pages related to the theme. They may also contain a related sub-theme page to explore in more detail a particular aspect of the topic, or to focus on one group involved.
