Content: This item consists of two letters (in English) from the Chief of Staff of the South East Area Army to his counterpart in the 8th Military District. A draft of one of the letters (in Japanese) is attached. In the letter dated 4 April 1946, the sender asks for permission to repatriate Corporal TAKEUCHI Isamu to Japan. TAKEUCHI was then in Rabaul as an attendant to Lieutenant General KANDA, Commander-in-Chief of the 17th Army, who had been summoned to Rabaul by the Australian forces. The other letter dated 6 April 1946 requests dental treatment for Major General FUNAYAMA and Rear-Admirals SAITÔ and KUSAKA.
