Content: This is an Allied Translator and Interpreter Section (ATIS) interrogation report for JA100101 of the 88th Garrison Unit, who was captured at Boke Island (Admiralty Islands) on 1 July 1944. JA100101, a 46 year old Sub-Lieutenant from Kumamoto Prefecture, was captured by natives and handed to US forces after he and three companions came ashore on Boke Island having set out in canoes from Manus Island. During the interrogation, JA100101 provided information on casualties inflicted by Allied attacks at Manus Island between 1 January and 30 June 1944, his reaction to Allied leaflet propaganda and how it changed his idea about the treatment he might receive if captured, living conditions in Japan, his attitude towards other races and morale among Japanese troops.
