内容の概要 | This is an Allied Translator and Interpreter Section (ATIS) research report issued on 15 November 1945 on amenities furnished by the Japanese to the armed forces. It contains information on canteen stores, the price of canteen articles (eg. sake, beer, cigarettes, clothing and canned goods, "comfort bags", recreation, athletics, geisha and entertainment troupes, brothels (regulations, business operation, management, hygiene, discipline), leave regulations, the supply of news, radios, bulletins, and the sending and receiving of mail. Illustrations and charts include a canteen price list, the distribution of entertainment equipment, rates at South Sector Billet brothels, medical inspection report form, brothel application forms, brothel contract form, rates at Rabaul brothels. The appendix includes forms required by Manila brothels and a police report on Manila brothels. The report concluded that the Japanese Army and Navy established canteens for those troops in areas where supplies were available and supplemented normal rations with free issues of items such as cigarettes, sweets, beer and sake. Little provision was made for physical training, movies or travelling shows in forward areas. Brothels under strict regulation were sanctioned by military authorities in any areas where there were large numbers of troops. |
