内容の概要This is an Allied Translator and Interpreter Section (ATIS) research report issued on 10 May 1944 on the supply of ammunition to Japanese land forces in the South-West Pacific Area. This report contains a wide range of information on Japanese ammunition supplies, including Japanese manufacturers of ammunition (location of plants in Japan, Korea and China), channels for ammunition supply, unloading and storage of ammunition at South-West Pacific Area bases, the transportation of ammunition to forward troops and bases, contents and weights of ammunition boxes, land transport data, the type of ammunition issued to Japanese land forces, quantity of ammunition issued for various weapons, quantity of ammunition supplied for major operations, and the type and quantity of ammunition supplied to Special Naval Landing Parties. The report concluded that most ammunition used by the Japanese in the South-West Pacific Area was produced in Japan itself and only small ammunition plants in Korea and China produced ammunition used in the Pacific theatre. Importantly, the report concluded that ammunition installations in Rabaul (as identified by prisoner of war, TAKAHASHI) were generally in the vicinity of Tunnel Hill Road or along Talili Bay. Also, that in August 1942 a burnt-out ship near Customs Wharf was used as an ammunition storehouse.
