内容の概要 | This item is a Japanese-language propaganda leaflet produced by the Far Eastern Liaison Office. An English translation of the text is attached. Two copies of the leaflet are included. The message encourages the unit commanders of the 18th Army to cease resistance immediately so that they and their men will be able to live and contribute to the post-war reconstruction of Japan. It mentions that a group of Japanese soldiers surrendered to the Australian forces near Maprik in May, a group of 23 Japanese men surrendered in early June on Guam, and 8,696 Japanese soldiers ceased fire on 22 June as the Okinawa campaign ended. According to the leaflet, these soldiers decided to surrender so as to prepare for the future of Japan and they have been treated well by their former enemy officers and men. 100,000 of them were printed. 98,700 of these leaflets were dispatched to Lae on 19 July 1945. On 27 June 1945, 200,000 more were reprinted. Between 2 and 16 August 1945, 85,000 of them were dispatched to Morotai and 110,500 of them were destroyed on 24 August 1945. |
