| 内容の概要 | This is an Allied Translator and Interpreter Section (ATIS) research report issued on 19 April 1945 on animosity between Japanese officers, commissioned and non-commissioned, and enlisted men. Based primarily on interrogation reports, this report contains information on the bitterness caused by the desertion of men by officers, competition among Japanese soldiers for food, the theft of food, allegations of cowardice among officers, excessive physical punishment, neglect of duty by officers, overemphasis on rank and "glory-seeking" among commanding officers. The report concluded that there was widespread evidence of animosity between Japanese troops and their commanding officers and that the principle of using rank and privilege to exact respect and obedience collapsed after sustained military defeats. |
