内容の概要 | This is an Allied Translator and Interpreter Section (ATIS) translation of a Japanese publication captured at Cape Gloucester on 8 February 1944 during the Allied campaigns to capture New Britain. This item is a file entitled "Detailed report of combat in the vicinity of Mount Samat", covering the period 26 January to 24 February 1942, issued by 65th Brigade. This item includes an account of the conditions on both sides before the commencement of operations, a description of weather and terrain, the names of officers, daily detailed reports, a chart showing casualties and losses of equipment, maps and sketches showing positions near Mt Samat (on the Bataan Peninsula), plans to capture Mt Samat, and other commentary on operational tactics. This item also includes observations about the failure of Japanese assault tactics due to superior Allied fire power, instructions on how to carry out a "suicide assault", discipline for "idlers", and the fighting qualities of Allied troops. After the campaigns in the Philippines the 65th Brigade arrived in Rabaul on 3 December 1942. Later it was deployed to the Cape Gloucester area to fight Allied forces moving westward. |
