Content: This document reports the statement made by General IMAMURA at the meeting with Major General Eather. IMAMURA appreciates the considerable fairness of the war crimes trials, but claims that the Australians should take the war circumstances into account when they make judgement. As for non-Japanese labourers (Chinese, Malays, Indians, Indonesians), he asserts that they were assisting Japanese forces with their own consent and with wages. Thus, judgement on the treatments of those non-Japanese labourers should be made according to Japanese law. IMAMURA urges that his trial should be held soon so that the reasoning and background of the treatment of the labourers will become clear.
