Content: This is an Allied Translator and Interpreter Section (ATIS) interrogation report for JA147884, a graduate of Meiji University and a clerk with the Mitsubishi Bank, who left Japan in October 1943. This report is part of a combined report on economic information collected from selected prisoners who left Japan between June 1943 and January 1944. The capture details for each prisoner are not recorded. During the interrogation, JA147884 provided information on rationing in Japan, the clothing rationing coupon system, black market operations in Japan, police corruption, food supply, the availability of liquor, wages and the cost of living, taxation, public transportation, the use of women conductors, the absence of private cars, the scarcity of rubber and the availability of petrol and oil.
