Content: Nominal roll for the Kure 5th Special Naval Landing Party, also referred to as the "Hayashi force", dated May 1942. It contains details of approximately 1000 Japanese soldiers including unit, rank, name, service number and former posting. There is an undated handwritten memo inside the front cover stating: "It is likely that Hayashi is the commander of the Kure 5th Special Landing Party". This is confirmed by comparing this list with the unit's nominal roll (AWM 82 1/1/5, see reference above). This unit was part of the force that landed at Milne Bay in 1942.
