Content: | This is an Allied Translator and Interpreter Section (ATIS) interrogation report for Lieutenant IIZUKA Yutaka of the Navy 2-Engine Bomber, who was captured in New Georgia on 11 September 1942. IIZUKA, a 24 year old Lieutenant from Tokyo, was captured after his bomber was forced down after bombing Guadalcanal. IIZUKA joined the Navy after finishing middle school. He was described as "an arrogant, hard-bitten security conscious airman of the 'young officer' type'" by the interrogators. During the interrogation, IIZUKA evaded answering questions which related to security issues, but provided some information on aircraft and morale in Japan. He was willing to have his name sent to Japan through the Red Cross as he did not believe prisoners of war would be disgraced and excecuted. |
