| Content: | This is an Allied Translator and Interpreter Section (ATIS) research report on the destruction of Japanese aircraft, based on enemy sources. The enquiry was received on 27 January 1944 and an answer despatched on 28 February 1944. ATIS was requested to study captured documents and interrogation reports in order to ascertain to what extent Allied claims of the destruction of Japanese aircraft could be confirmed from enemy sources. This report contains a list of Japanese reports of the destruction or damage to aircraft resulting from Allied action for the period January 1943 to 17 November 1943. The table includes the date of loss, combat area, type of aircraft destroyed or damaged, number of aircraft destroyed or damaged in each action, and sources of the information. The report also contains general references to losses in the South-west Pacific Area. There are seven supplementary reports related to this research report (see RR-59 and supplements). |
