| Content: | This item is an original paybook issued in January 1943 to Corporal ISHIBASHI Gosuke from the 3rd Field Hospital of the 41st Division, recording salary payments made to him between January 1943 and March 1944. At the front of the paybook is a list of instructions for its care and use, as well as a list of ranks and special allowances calculating the rate of pay due to Corporal ISHIBASHI. The rest of the book consists of pages divided into columns for recording monthly payments, with spaces for the stamps of the payee and paymaster. These sections have been stamped by paymaster 2nd Lieutenant NAKANISHI Katsumi. The inscription in pencil inside the back cover says that ISHIBASHI died of malaria in Hollandia on 14 July 1944. This item was captured at Aso on 24 October 1944. |
