Content: This item is a collection of service records for soldiers who were recruited into the 238th Infantry Regiment between July 1939 and March 1940. Each report contains the personal details of the soldier in question, including his pre-recruitment academic record and/or occupation, home address, immediate family connections and the dates of his induction and any promotions. During the first year of training, a grade ranging from A to D is given for the soldier's health, as well as for specific activities and duties such as "exercise," "learning," "target practice," "running," and "general work." These are followed by yearly reports on the soldier's progress, with comments on his attitude, aptitude, health and general demeanour. This item was captured at Finschhafen in April 1944.
