Content: This is an Allied Translator and Interpreter Section (ATIS) translation of a Japanese publication captured in Tacloban on 30 October 1944 during the US campaign to recapture the Philippines. This item is a battle report by the 16th Division for April 1944, issued on 1 May 1944 and held by the Tacloban Military Police Section. It contains information on the relocation of the main strength of the 16th Division on Samar and Leyte; the disposition of units and forces in the Visayas; guerrilla activity in Luzon, Mindoro, Samar, Leyte, Western Visaya and Palawan; guerrilla and Japanese propaganda activities; an investigation of the topography of Palawan; training and replacement; development of roads and communications; supply situation; hygiene and medical supplies; and awards and punishments. This item also contains nine charts and five maps on punitive operations against guerrilla forces, battle results, disposition of forces, communications and supplies.
