Content: These records consist of battle reports and operational records from Japanese Army air campaigns in New Guinea, the Solomon Islands and other areas north of Australia. These records are among a larger collection which either survived the post-war campaign of destruction of official documents, or were compiled in the immediate post-war period by the Japanese Demobilisation Ministry.

Approximately 330 items have been identified as relating to campaigns with a connection to Australia. These have been classified as follows:
Army air operations in New Guinea and the Solomons (115 records);
Army air operations North of Australia (90 records);
Operations of the 3rd Air Corps (112 records).

These records primarily comprise war diaries, battle and operations reports, but also include some reports compiled in the immediate post-war period by the Demobilisation Ministry. Examples include classified operations reports for the 4th Air Corps in New Guinea and the Solomons, and detailed battle reports the 4th Air Corps Airfield Construction Battalion.
