Content: This item is a 1942 Japanese reproduction of a map of western Dutch New Guinea, or Irian Jaya, with a scale of 1:300. It gives detailed coverage of an area extending from the Boo Islands in the east, to Noemfoor Island in the west, and from the Asia Islands in the Pacific Ocean in the north, to Papisoi in the south. All place names on the map are given in their Dutch variants, suggesting that this map was originally obtained from the Dutch colonial administration of what is now Irian Jaya. It was captured at Madang, probably in 1944.
