Content: This is an Allied Translator and Interpreter Section (ATIS) interrogation report for YAMASHITA Nobuyuki of the 41st Infantry Regiment 1st Battalion 2nd Platoon. YAMASHITA, a 26 year old Lance Corporal from Hiroshima Prefecture, was straggling towards Gona suffering from malaria and starvation when he was captured by Australian troops on 5 December 1942. His unit had advanced beyond Kagi when it received an order to retreat. He attemptted to cross a river on a raft, which capsized throwing him and his companions in the water. He managed to reach the river bank and walked in the jungle towards the sea for ten days before he was captured by Australian soldiers. During the interrogation, YAMASHITA provided information on his unit's organisation and movements. He also spoke about social situations in Japan as well as people's views on war.
