Content: This is an Allied Translator and Interpreter Section (ATIS) interrogation report for rank JA145704 of the 238th Infantry Regiment 1st Battalion 4th Company 1st Platoon 2nd Section, who was captured in Gali near Weber Point on 7 February 1944. JA145704, a 30 year old Superior Private from Gunma, was ill with malaria and half-starved when he was captured by Australian troops. During the interrogation, JA145704 provided information on unit organisation, movement, attitude of soldiers toward Japanese Army's strategies in New Guinea. According to JA145704, the soldiers in Salamaua were quite critical of the fact the troops were sent there when there was not much possibility of holding the position.
