Content: This item is a record of salary payments made through the 243rd Field Postal Office to soldiers and officers from the IKUI unit (belonging to the 112th Line Of Communication Hospital) during the month of March 1943. It records the calculations used to determine salary payments; i.e., base salary according to rank, followed by extra payments and salary increases made for extra duties or following promotions. There is a note regarding special salary provisions for a 1st class Private TAKESAWA Toshio from the Ikui unit, who was seconded to the 37th unit and departed from Ujina on March 18th for Koror, Palau. Most of the soldiers recorded on the payroll are of the Private, 1st Class Private or Superior Private level, although instructions are also given on how to calculate pay at higher levels (e.g., Lieutenant or 2nd Lieutenant). Several names on the payroll are crossed out, perhaps indicating death or secondment of the soldier in question. The payroll also contains two separate receipts for money that was forwarded to the home address of 1st Class Privates WATANABE and IITSUKA. It was captured at Hansa Bay in July 1944.
