| Content: | This is an Allied Translator and Interpreter Section (ATIS) research report issued on 7 October 1944 on Japanese mortars and grenade launchers. This report contains information on the 15 cm mortar, the Model 89 grenade dischargers (81 mm mortar), organisation and strength of mortar batteries and squads, the use of the Model 89 grenade discharger in attack, the defensive use of mortar fire, infantry weapons used on 1000 and 600 metre fronts, fire control, firing tables and methods. Sketch maps show methods of firing under various situations. The report also makes a comparison between the number of mortars used by American and Japanese forces. |
