Content: | This is an Allied Translator and Interpreter Section (ATIS) translation of a Japanese publication captured at Maffin on 27 June 1944 during the Allied attacks on Japanese positions in northern Dutch New Guinea, which were intended to isolate the 18th Army at Wewak. This item contains two extracts entitled "Regulations regarding utilization of PsW" by the North China Area Army, and another concerning the supervision of troops returning to Japan from combat areas, taken from a "Regulations file" belonging to 2nd Company, 224th Infantry Regiment. Dated 3 September 1941, the first item contains regulations concerning the employment of prisoners of war, classification of prisoner-of-war labourers, use of labour in Manchuria and issues regarding the release of prisoners of war. Dated 10 March 1942, the second item contains information on the rules and regulations governing the return of troops from combat areas. It outlines general rules, military discipline, articles to be carried or shipped (including entrusted items, combat souvenirs and secret documents), and custom tariff laws |
