Content: This is an Allied Translator and Interpreter Section (ATIS) translation of a Japanese publication captured at Hollandia (Jayapura) on 25 April 1944 during the Allied attacks on Japanese positions in northern Dutch New Guinea, which were intended to isolate the 18th Army at Wewak. This item is a handwritten notebook on espionage and sabotage, dated 23 June to 30 September, year and author unknown. It contains information on a range of subjects, including: how to open sealed envelopes, a list of fifth column techniques and security measures, methods of incendiary attack, demolition devices and igniting agents. This item was compiled in response to the high cost of chemical and arson attacks by "anti-Japanese and communist" elements in Manchuria and China.
