Content: This is an Allied Translator and Interpreter Section (ATIS) translation of a Japanese publication captured at Bacolod, Negros, on 28 May 1945 during the US campaign to recapture the Philippines. This item is a full translation of an article entitled "Japanese residents in enemy countries", by the Bureau for Japanese Residents in Enemy Countries, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, extracted from "Weekly Report", issued on 12 May 1943 by the Information Bureau, Tokyo. It contains information on the number of Japanese interned in enemy countries, conditions after detention, conditions in individual countries, measures taken by the Imperial Government to improve the welfare of interned Japanese and relief for the families of Japanese in enemy countries. The ATIS editor notes that the article appears to have been based largely on reports from the Swiss Government and the International Red Cross.
